What it’s up for: Costume design
Uneventful. And yet…I mostly wanted to keep watching.
The movie explores what may have happened if William Shakespeare did not in fact write his body of work. Through the demonization of theater by the queen’s closest advisors, a nobleman must let his words shine through the common-folk.
I’m very tired so this will be very brief. (There’s not really much to say on it anyway.) It’s an interesting look at the politics of Shakespeare’s time and brings up some real questions about the reality of who we know Shakespeare to be. However, it’s riddled with plot holes and undeveloped characters. It was about half an hour too long. However, the set and costume designs were great. There’s no reason this movie shouldn’t win.
Strong likelihood of winning since they were the most complex costumes that were nominated.
